The New York Times reviews The Best American Comics 2007, edited by Chris Ware.

The comics collected in this book range fairly far and wide, but the strong center of gravity is plaintive tales of everyday life, set in the present, and usually about the social groups that comic artists themselves belong to. The appeal of such work is its emotional directness — in this age of highly branded, executive-produced cultural output, comics promise a more resonant and unadulterated link between creator and reader.

The Financial Times examines Chip Kidd's covers for David Sedaris's book, Naked.

Designer Chip Kidd shares Sedaris’s wry sensibility and his appreciation for the comic potential of human weirdness. Many of the stories in Naked explore ideas of vulnerability and self-exposure, so Kidd chose for Naked’s cover a photograph of loose white boxer shorts. The title is printed directly on the white book-binding rather than on the jacket, with the too-short jacket just touching the base of the word.

The San Francisco Chronicle lists the highlights from its "pop quiz" interviews with musicians in 2007.

Lee Hazlewood

A: Well, I thought it was very profitable for me. That's what I thought of that. It made money.
