36 Down, 16 To Go "Dororo Volume 2" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Osamu Tezuka is an anime legend, and I have read many of his books since rediscovering comics. So far I have read a couple of his graphic novels and his Buddha series, as well as the first volume of the Dororo set, and his narrative arc, crisp line drawings, and clever puns (both visual and verbal) make him one of my favorite cartoonists of all time.

Dororo Volume 2 picks up where the first volume left off, with the thief Dororo accompanying the teenage hero Hyakkimaru. As Hyakkimaru continues to fight demons and reclaim his body parts one by one, the Dororo's history is slowly revealed. Tezuka is a master of suspenseful storytelling, and the book is filled with close calls and the duo's adventures. I am already looking forward to reading the third book in the series.

My next book is What I Talk About When I Talk About Running: A Memoir, by Haruki Murakami.
