3 Down, 49 To Go "American Splendor: Another Dollar" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

I owe Harvey Pekar much. His 2003 film American Splendor piqued my long-dormant interest in comics. I look forward to all of his books, historical and autobiographical, but find his own life stories to be especially fascinating.

American Splendor: Another Dollar finds Pekar collaborating (as he usually does) with several stellar artists, notably Dean Haspiel (The Alcoholic) and Warren Pleece (Incognegro). Each illustrator's style adds its own edge to the comics, but Pekar's voice remains painfully honest throughout. These stories cover life's everyday moments, like going to the doctor or getting a car repaired, but Pekar's honesty with both himself and the reader makes them ring true and loud.
