13 Down, 39 To Go "McSweeney's #30" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

The 30th edition of McSweeney's Quarterly Concern is the series' most memorable in years (for its content if not for its design), and filled with pleasant surprises. Actor Michael Cera's short story, "Pine Cone," is one of the edition's most rewarding, and a re-worked story by Wells Tower (that originally appeared in an earlier edition in the series) manages to improve on its estimable original incarnation. The rest of the collection is what I have come to expect from McSweeney's at its best, simply rewarding short fiction.

My next book is The Beats: A Graphic History (which I am giving away along with two other Harvey Pekar graphic novels in this week's Largehearted Boy giveaway).
