This Week's Interesting Music Releases - July 13, 2010
The 25th anniversary edition of R.E.M.'s Fables of the Reconstruction is in stores tomorrow. The album has been digitally remastered and includes a bonus disc of demos (including "Bandwagon, which I wrote about earlier this month).
Along with the REM box set, two compilations are the highlights of my release week, Tommy Keene You Hear Me: A Retrospective 1983-2009 and Carissa's Weird's They'll Only Miss You When You Leave: Songs 1996-2003.
Of the week's new releases, I can strongly recommend Admiral Radley's I Heart California, Caravan Palace's self-titled album, The Innocence Mission's My Room in the Trees and especially School of Seven Bells' Disconnect From Desire.
Two of the most-anticipated releases this week just didn't click with me (M.I.A.'s M A Y A and Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse's Dark Night of the Soul), I'l give them another spin in a week or two.
Reissues this week include three remastered albums by the Frames (Another Love Song, Dance the Devil..., Fitzcarraldo) and a 20th anniversary edition of Concrete Blonde's Bloodletting.
Besides the Fables of the Reconstruction release, two other box sets stand out this week (if you have deep pockets). Broken Social Scene releases its Forgiveness Rock Record album as a vinyl box set containing 7 10" vinyl records.
Next Stop Vietnam - The War On Record, 1961-2008 compiles songs about the Vietnam War in a 13-CD box set that includes a 300+ page book.
