This Week's Interesting Music Releases - July 20, 2010
When people ask me what my favorite album of the year is, I list the three discs that have been at the top of my list for months. Mountain Man's Made the Harbor, out tomorrow, is one of these, as are Sleigh Bells' Treats (the vinyl is available this week) and The Monitor, the concept album by Titus Andronicus. Mountain Man's folk music is filled with vocal harmonies that celebrate the simple power of the human voice.
I can also strongly recommend The Books' The Way Out, Dan Sartain's Lives, Frazey Ford's (of the Be Good Tanyas) Obadiah, and Frontier Ruckus's Deadmalls & Nightfalls
Vinyl reissues of the Dirty Three's She Has No Strings Apollo, The National's Sad Songs for Dirty Lovers, and Shellac's Terraform are very tempting, as is the remastered edition of Wire's Send Ultimate.
