This Week's Interesting Music Releases - October 19, 2010
Bob Dylan's The Witmark Demos: 1962-1964, volume nine of his bootleg series is released tomorrow along with The Original Mono Recordings, a 9-CD box set of his first eight studio albums as well as a 1963 live performance.
Liz Phair releases a CD of her latest album, Funstyle, this week, complete with a disc of her Girlysound demos.
Among the week's other new releases, I can strongly recommend Oh Land's self-titled EP, Brent Amaker and The Rodeo's Please Stand By, and especially the latest incarnation of the Extra Glenns (the Mountain Goats' John Darnielle paired with singer-songwriter Franklin Bruno) The Extra Lens' Undercard.
Two covers albums stand out, Girl in a Coma's Adventures in Coverland and From the Land of Ice & Snow: The Songs of Led Zeppelin, an indie rock Led Zep tribute.
The remastered 20th anniversary edition of Morrissey's Bona Drag was recently lauded by Pitchfork, and includes several bonus tracks. Other reissues out this week include two Soft Boys albums (A Can Of Bees and Underwater Moonlight) and two Jon Spencer Blues Explosion discs (Acme + Xtra Acme-Plus and Orange + Experimental Remixes EP), all with bonus material.
