WORD is an independent neighborhood bookstore in Greenpoint, the northernmost neighborhood of Brooklyn, that recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Our primary goal is to be whatever our community needs us to be, which currently means carrying a lot of paperback fiction (especially classics), cookbooks, board books, and absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). We're a small operation, just 1000 square feet and four people, but we read too much, so it all works out. If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbrooklyn.
When It Happens To You
by Molly Ringwald
More than just a pretty face, Ringwald is now a novelist! Her new novel-in-stories has blurbs from Lauren Groff and Eleanor Henderson, which gives it more than a fighting chance as far as we're concerned.
Feminist Ryan Gosling The Book
by Danielle Henderson
One of our favorite tumblrs can now be carried around in your bag! The ultimate gift for the feminist/pop-culture fiend in your life.
Big Mean Mike
by Michelle Knudsen
How can Mike be big and mean AND be friends with bunnies?! Be prepared to growl, yell, and then go "Awwwwwwwwww!" when reading this one!
Economix: How Our Economy Works (And Doesn't) in Words and Pictures
by Michael Goodwin, illustrated by Dan E. Burr
For fans of The Influencing Machine comes another pictorial guide to things you might want to learn more about without having to resort to a textbook.
