In the weekly Atomic Books Comics Preview, Benn Ray highlights notable new comics and graphic novels.
Atomic Books has been named one of Bizarre Magazine's 51 geekiest places on the planet, as well as one of Flavorwire's 10 greatest comic and graphic novel stores in America.
Adventure Time Volume 2
by Ryan North / Shelli Paroline / Braden Lamb
A new collection of bestselling comics from the hit TV series. Trust me, if you like the show, you'll like these comics - they are the rare comic that not only captures the spirit of the source material - they continue with it.
Batman: The Black Mirror
by Scott Snyder / Jock / Francesco Francavilla
For those reading Batman comics, you probably already know that Scott Snyder is one of the best writers of this character in years. His "Court of Owls" story arc was great. His "Death of the Family" will easily go down as one of the all-time best Batman stories. But this new, very affordable paperback collects one of his earlier stories and is a great introduction or the perfect excuse for anyone looking to read some good Batman comics.
Nemo: Heart of Ice (League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)
by Alan Moore / Kevin O'Neill
This is a big week for Alan Moore fans. Not only is the ol' snake worshipper back with a new art book/bio on Steven Moore and a look at South London but he also delivers a new League of Extraordinary Gentlemen book - this one is a Nemo tale where Jules Verne meets H.P. Lovecraft. In a nifty hardcover format.
by Heather Benjamin
Okay, this one is ADULTS ONLY - but hol-ee crap do I love Heather Benjamin's artwork of women leaking all kinds of fluids all over the place! Disturbing, funny, awesome - not for those with a sensitive stomach.
Tony Millionaire's Maakies Newspaper
by Tony Millionaire
Talk about the perfect marriage of format and content! This newspaper collects over 100 of Millionaire's Maakies strips. If you're looking to read something like this on some sort of novelty e-gadget, well, I just feel sorry for you.
