WORD is an independent neighborhood bookstore in Greenpoint, the northernmost neighborhood of Brooklyn, that recently celebrated its fifth anniversary. Our primary goal is to be whatever our community needs us to be, which currently means carrying a lot of paperback fiction (especially classics), cookbooks, board books, and absurdly cute cards and stationery. In addition, we're fiends for a good event, from the classic author reading and Q&A to potlucks and a basketball league (and anything set in a bar). We're a small operation, just 1000 square feet and four people, but we read too much, so it all works out. If a weekly dose of WORD here isn't enough for you, follow us on Twitter: @wordbrooklyn.

Clementine got a nursing kit for her birthday! Her patients may be of all ages and all types, but they've all got one thing in common: all of their bandages need to stay on for One Week.
Vampires in the Lemon Grove
by Karen Russell
Russell's new short story collection has all the magical realism and whimsy we wanted, plus a hefty dose of horror! Jenn gives it an A++.
This Is Running For Your Life
by Michelle Orange
Says Jami: "Michelle Orange is a crystal clear thinker—funny, lucid, warm and enthusiastic. And This Is Running For Your Life is an important treasure trove of irresistible ideas, information and memories. I found it a delight.”
Ninja: 1,000 Years of the Shadow Warrior
by John Man
We don't know how you don't at least pick this book up (especially if you are a member of Clan Harkaway)!
