43 Down, 9 To Go - "Momofuku Milk Bar" (52 Books, 52 Weeks)

Three of my most anticipated books of 2011 books just came out. The novels 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides, and the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook.

New York's Momofuku restaurants are among my favorites in the world. In particular, their pork buns are among the finest delicacies I have ever tasted. When I am in Manhattan, I often make a special trip to one of their Milk Bar locations for a sweet treat and a container of cereal milk. The Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook shares many of Milk Bar's recipes, from crack pie to corn and compost corn cookies to carrot layer cake, complete with a list of the author's preferred techniques and ingredients.

I am a cookbook fanatic, and pick up at least a dozen every year. In the month since purchasing Momofuku Milk Bar, I have made about a half dozen of the recipes, and plan on making many, many more. Beautifully illustrated with photographs and stocked with compelling backstories for each dish, this is easily my favorite cookbook of the year.

My next book is Don DeLillo's short story collection The Angel Esmeralda: Nine Stories.
