Shorties (Stream R.E.M.'s Greatest Hits Album, Tom Perrotta on Literary Genre Fiction, and more)

NPR is streaming R.E.M.'s 2-disc, 40-song overview of their career, Part Lies, Part Heart, Part Truth, Part Garbage (out November 15th).

Tom Perrotta discusses his new novel The Leftovers with the National Post.

"Some writers are not afraid to be boring and that’s fine, they're offering something else, but that's one of the contracts I have with my readers — you're not going to be bored," says Perrotta, author of seven books, including Election, Little Children and the new suburbia-meets-apocalypse novel The Leftovers. "I'm trying to bring the excitement of genre fiction to literary fiction. I want these books to crank up at the end."
